Decay and relevance
How information loses governing weight over time.
Information loses governing weight over time. Cogna8 models this with relevance: when an item's relevance falls below the active threshold, it becomes terminal and stops satisfying gates.
Relevance over timeIllustrative curves. Firmer types resist decay longer; reconfirming resets the clock.
In this example a fact drops below the active threshold after about 54 days unless it is reconfirmed.
What affects relevance
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Time since confirmation | Relevance falls as time passes |
| Type | Constraints and decisions resist decay; assumptions and opinions fade quickly |
| Use | Actively referenced state stays relevant longer |
Keeping state fresh
Reconfirming a fact resets its relevance, through the API, in conversation, or by refreshing it in the console. The gate warns when required state is close to its limit.
